 Close-up of eyes and mouth
image aquarelle, brigitte charland, yeux

The steps are the same for either color of eyes, blue, brown, green, gray etc... Do not use frisquet on any part of the eyes, it would be too harsh. I always start a portrait with a wet in wet wash starting with a very light coblat blue wash over the complete eye and then I paint the first color of skin all around. After the face is completed, I paint the different shades of the iris; a little darker on the rim and a light triangle where the light its. Then I paint the black pupil and the white light reflection. Then with the lighly grayed blue cobalt, I paint the shadow that the eye-lid makes on the eye. No need to tell you that every color application has to be very dry before adding another one.

Same thing for the mouth, I don't put frisquet on the teeth. I apply a very light wash of cobalt blue on the teeth and then the skin colour on the rest of the mouth. On dry, I then paint the inside of the mouth and lips with a light warm pink. I then paint a light cobalt blue shadow of the lip on the upper teeth.
